1. Just letting everyone know the Christmas Jam has been released! You can check out the official post here: http://www.celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=61539 Download here: Chistmas Jam There are some truly amazing maps in here, and I hope you have fun exploring them all. Enjoy the remainder of the year, and I wish everyone triumph and victory in the New Year!
2. Apparently uploading a GIF doesn't work also... So you'll have to click the link to see the frames.
3. TheKillingJoke my map will include a special remix of a classic Quake track with my own piano cover of "Let it Go" (no vocals, thankfully, I'm no singer) so you won't need to play the Frozen OST. It's a shame about the site slowing down, and certain features are not functioning. It was a true forum as compared to func_ Right now I fear the worst for this place... I don't know exactly when the jam will release, but maps are due 22, so expect it within a few days after that, I will surely make a post. Happy Holidays Quakers! 4. Ok, making a post here can be frustrating at times. I received an error message when this posted, and none of the images appear to be showing. So here's a link to the imgur gallery: https://imgur.com/a/qpLKZ
5. Hey, everyone! I haven't seen anything posted about this here yet so I thought I'd try and spread the hype! Coming this December will be a new Quake mapjam specifically for the Arcane Dimensions mod. The jam is tentatively titled the Christmas mapjam but I'm sure the themes of the maps will vary, or have no holiday specific theme at all. There are some amazing mappers working on this jam, and some of the screens I've seen so far look outstanding. I'm really excited about this jam and I think everyone is going to have a blast playing through these maps. If you haven't already done so, make sure you check out Arcane Dimensions the mod you will need to play this jam. Original post at func: http://www.celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=61508&start=81 Arcane Dimensions: https://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/ad_v1_50final.html Also, I am doing a map for this jam as well and to get you in the holiday spirit I have a few screens. The map is inspired by Disney's Frozen (I know insane right?) But bear with me, I think some people might get a few kicks out of it!
6. Weapons models look nice, will be interesting to see this mod. Sounds like a mammoth project if you are making maps, enemies and new effects all at the same time.
7. If you watch this playthrough on youtube, this player seems to get all the tomes and 100% secrets.
8. Thanks Dutch. Yep, the Indy references are strong with this one. I left the player identity kind of ambiguous so they can assume it is anyone, but Dr. Jones is the inspiration here. Awesome that you found all the secrets, I set it up so that, if the player is paying attention they may only miss 1 or 2. Important AD version 1.6 is needed! I forgot to mention this originally in the post. This update is included with AD Sepulchre.
9. Hey everyone, My new map for Arcane Dimensions has been released. The original post on func is here: http://celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=61512 You must have the latest ADv1.6 installed and when you download the zip, extract into your Quake/ad directory. You MUST keep the file structure intact. The map can be played with Quakespasm v0.92.1, Quakespasm Spiked, Mark V v1.0, or Darkplaces (2014/05/13 build). Darkplaces users MUST turn off RT World lights. After installing launch AD, enter the console and type map ad_paradise and your journey begins... PLEASE take a look at the included readme.txt. for the full story, secrets guide, credits and more. Screens: https://imgur.com/a/im96E Download: http://www.quaketastic.com/files/sin...d_paradise.zip Enjoy! Redfield
10. Is anyone here a fan of Mario 64 as well as Quake. I remember back in the day when 3D was new to the world and Quake and Mario 64 were both fascinating to me. They seem to have a lot of similarities: -low polygon world -fully 3D environments and 3D models -lots of platform jumping -lava obstacles -swimming in underwater levels -jumping into portals to enter new worlds -If you count the Quake mission packs then both games have Egypt themed levels and feature fire breathing dragons as bosses! I think it would be cool if someone made .mdl's of some Mario 64 models so the could be used in Quake. Has anyone ever seen any such models? Anyways, I'm just rambling because I recently got a Nintendo 64.
11. Finished playing through the entire jam. Excellent Quake experience. The authors did a great job and I recommend anyone here who loves Quake 1 to check this out. Dumptruck has done a great job promoting this on youtube, as well as making an awesome map and music. I jost hope new players aren't scared off by the difficulties installing mods and maps into the correct folders. It really isn't hard, you just have to have the latest version, and follow the instructions. Cheers!
12. #1 e1m5 - Gloom Keep. Classic, non-linear, challenging, amazing traps and secrets. The best. Runner's up: Scourge of Armagon HIP1M3 - The Lost Mine. Simply love this map, rolling boulders, ancient mine shaft, mountains, and tech base. HIP2M1 - Ancient Realms. Gothic castle inside mountain range. Huge central chamber, interconnected and non-linear, has exit to secret level, and introduced the too cute for Quake gremlins. Dissolution of Eternity R2M4 - Curse of Osiris. The first Egyptian themed map. Starts with a vista opening to the pharaoh's face. Followed by mazes, traps, mummies, wraiths and clever secrets. These are my classic favourites. There are too many other custom maps and mapjam maps by great authors and maps for me to list.
13. Looks good so far. I like the water area around the stairs. I know time is running out on this jam. I guess the main focus should be gameplay, I never really care how many detail brushes a map has as long as the play is fun and balanced and there is a good amount of id/quake style details in the environment.
14. This is also useful for anyone editing textures in any program that needs .gpl. I'm using mtPaint which doesn't use some of the more common qpalette formats. I created my own .gpl file by entering all the hex codes for the palette. Took me forever. I wish you could have made this earlier :)
15. This one is going to be cool. All of the map jams have produced amazing maps, including some of my personal favourites. I think the time constraints on jams make it hard for mappers to finish things, so smaller maps are the way to go. Some authors clearly have more time. For this reason I think all of the jam maps are excellent in their own right. Its hard to think that its been like 15 years since Contract Revoked.
